A backpack such as a CamelBak means that you can have water with you on your days out, along with spares, tools and some food.
Essential mountain bike equipment for Morzine
Here in the Alps bikes can take quite a bit of punishment compared to their normal use in the UK. The terrain here is mountainous, so rocks and roots along with big fast downhill courses mean that you need to make sure your bike is in top condition.
In a typical day you will also be out on the mountain for most of the day, and not coming back to your car after each run as you might in the UK - things like trail tools, spares and hydration are incredibly important.
Spares can be pretty expensive in town, so it's wise to stock up beforehand.
Something is going to come loose just at the wrong moment, make sure you've at least got some allen keys, screwdrivers and a chain tool.
Due to the rocks and terrain punctures are common, make sure you bring several inner tubes with you and don't forget the tyre levers!
You'll need one with you when you get a flat. Get a small and light one that will fit in your Hydration pack.
Tyres will get worn out quickly riding all day on fast hard terrain, pack some spares and consider bringing mud tyres for wet days.
They break easily when clattered into a rock and can be expensive to replace, it's never a bad idea to carry a spare.
Riding for 7 days in the same cycle jersey and shorts is going to loose you friends quickly, bring a few to change into.
A helmet goes without saying, but consider bringing more protection with you than you'd use back home.
It does rain out here, and when it rains it pours, make sure you can carry on riding through the bad weather and mud.
Are your brakes up to scratch? You'll soon know if they're not. Maybe now is time to think about getting some new ones (HOPE V2's are great).
Even if your brakes are in good condition you can wear out brake pads quickly on the steep terrain here - carry a spare set!
These are just the tip of the iceberg. Have a think if there's anything else that might not last the holiday and replace it now to avoid the disappointment of losing a day mountain biking.
